Every journey begins with a memory.

For Shealife, that memory starts in Calaba Town, a coastal community near Freetown, Sierra Leone, where my grandmother, Elizabeth Majoe Squire, introduced me to the remarkable versatility of raw shea butter.

In our home, shea butter was never simply a skincare ingredient. It was part of everyday life. It soothed dry lips, comforted tired muscles, nourished skin, protected against the elements, and even served as a cooking ingredient. It represented care, generosity, and tradition—passed from one generation to the next through simple daily rituals.

Long before I understood the science behind skincare, I understood how it felt. The rich scent of raw shea butter became the scent of home, love, and family.

Years later, after moving to Sweden, those childhood memories inspired something greater.

In 2020, Annie founded Shealife with a vision to honour my grandmother’s legacy by bringing together African Roots × Nordic Nature. Combining generations of West African skincare traditions with Swedish craftsmanship, transparency, and quality standards, every product is handcrafted in small batches using carefully selected botanical ingredients and raw shea butter.

Before reaching your hands, every product undergoes a Cosmetic Product Safety Assessment to verify that it is safe for its intended use. Every formulation begins with carefully selected ingredients chosen for their quality, purpose and heritage. We believe exceptional skincare starts with nature, guided by generations of traditional knowledge and refined through thoughtful craftsmanship.

Raw Shea Butter sits at the heart of our collection. Sourced from West Africa, it has been treasured for generations for its deeply nourishing and protective properties, making it the foundation of many of our handcrafted products.

We complement shea butter with botanical oils such as olive, sweet almond, sunflower, coconut and castor oil, selected to help cleanse, soften and support the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Our formulations are enriched with plant extracts, including aloe vera, calendula, chamomile, green tea, cucumber and turmeric, each chosen to bring its own unique botanical character to our skincare rituals.

To add both beauty and function, we also use natural clays and mineral-rich ingredients that help create distinctive colours, luxurious textures and an elevated cleansing experience without compromising quality.

Finally, we blend in natural butters such as cocoa butter, mango butter and kokum butter to create rich, comforting formulations that leave the skin feeling soft, smooth and cared for.
