How to Store Soap:
A beautiful handmade soap deserves a little care. Unlike many conventional cleansing bars, handmade soap is often rich in natural oils and butters. At SheaLife, our soaps are created with skin-loving ingredients such as shea butter and plant oils, which help give each bar its creamy, luxurious character. But there is one simple thing that can make a big difference to how long your soap lasts: how you store it.
If a handmade soap bar is left sitting in water or constantly exposed to moisture, it can become soft and disappear much faster than it should. With the right storage, your soap can dry properly between uses and stay firm for longer.
Here’s how to store your soap properly — both in the bathroom and before you’re ready to use it.

Handmade soap naturally comes into contact with water every time you wash. That is exactly what it is designed for. The problem begins when the bar stays wet after you have finished using it. A soap sitting in a puddle of water or on a surface without drainage cannot dry efficiently. Over time, the outside of the bar may become soft or mushy, and you can end up using the soap much faster. The solution is wonderfully simple: water when you wash, air when you’re done.

Simple Tips to Make Your Handmade Soap Last Longer

Use a Soap Dish That Drains
One of the easiest ways to look after your soap is to place it on a well-draining soap dish. Look for a dish with grooves, holes, or a raised surface that allows excess water to move away from the bar. This helps air circulate the soap rather than allowing the bottom to remain wet. Avoid storing your soap in a completely flat dish where water can collect underneath it.

Use a Soap Saver for Small Pieces
Eventually, every well-loved bar reaches that tiny, awkward stage where it becomes difficult to hold.
Don't throw those little pieces away.
A soap saver bag can help you use the last pieces of several bars. Place the soap remnants inside, wet the bag, and use it to create a lather.
It is a simple way to reduce waste and get as much use as possible from every bar.
Let Your Soap Dry Between Uses
After washing, place your soap somewhere it can dry naturally. Try not to leave the bar directly underneath the shower stream or somewhere that is constantly being splashed with water. A little airflow makes a surprisingly big difference.
Keep Cool and Dry
Not every soap bar needs to live in the bathroom. If you have bought several bars — or simply like keeping a few different varieties at home — store the ones you are not currently using in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place.
Travelling With Handmade Soap
Solid soap is wonderful for travelling, but avoid putting a soaking-wet bar straight into a closed container. When possible, allow your soap to dry before packing it. For shorter trips, a travel soap container with drainage or ventilation can be especially useful.
